A Filmmaker’s Study
Personal essays on movies I find interesting.
Focusing on the story and cultural ideas behind these films.
Why did I start this blog?
As a growing filmmaker, the motivation for creating this public blog comes down to two main reasons:
1. To Study Films
With each new project I complete, I’m proud of the work, yet I’m always reminded of how much more there is to learn. This is my way of dedicating myself to studying the craft of filmmaking.
Writing here is my way to refine my thinking. I believe becoming a master of filmmaking for myself requires a continuous practice of reflection and imagining of ideas about myself and the world around me, creating meaning for myself and a collective audience, turning into a cultural vocabulary to think about different ideas.
This is a space devoted for me to simply be a student of the craft.
2. To Build Community
My hope is that writing publicly creates opportunities to engage in conversations to challenge my ideas with readers and filmmakers behind the work I explore.
This blog is also a way for me to develop my own voice, share my creative process, and grow an audience that I can bring along for future films, projects, and stories still in the making, promoted through my email list, linked below.
Every so often, I write out updates on film projects over email. To be a part of my occasional brain dump, please sign up here.
